Senior dads are famously hard to buy for. They don't want gadgets with 40-page manuals or another pair of socks. After polling our own residents, here are the five gifts senior fathers actually treasure.
1. A memory book, made together
Collect photos, ticket stubs and stories from siblings and old friends, then assemble them into a printed book. Residents tell us this beats every object they've ever received — it says your life mattered to us.
2. An experience day, side by side
A ball game, a fishing morning, a classic-car show, a favourite restaurant — the event matters less than your presence. Book it for a specific date (open-ended promises evaporate) and handle all the driving.
3. A comfort upgrade
Luxurious slippers, a proper reading lamp, a soft heated throw, noise-cancelling headphones for audiobooks — small daily luxuries he would never buy himself but uses every single day.
4. A subscription that keeps giving
Large-print book clubs, garden seed boxes, classic-film streaming or a monthly cheese selection. A gift that reappears twelve times beats one that gathers dust once.
5. Your time, scheduled
The most requested gift in our poll wasn't a thing at all: a standing weekly call, a monthly lunch date, a shared hobby. Put it in both calendars before Father's Day ends — intentions fade, appointments happen.
